One of the more interesting activities I got to plan and execute along with my good friend and superb genealogist Roger Tenney was a fire power demonstration using an 1861 Springfield Rifle, an 1859 Sharps Carbine, an 1860 Spencer Rifle and an 1860 Henry Rifle, all weapons used in the Battle of Nashville.
The demonstration went well and dispite the malfunctions with the Springfield and the Sharps, which just showed the advantage of the Spencer and the Henry, the demos were a great success. In preparation for the event I did two posters that provided visitors with information on each weapon. I got a lot of nice complements on them so I thought I'd provide PDFs of each panel on the poster (there were four panels on the posters) for educators and others that might find them useful.
So here are the links:
- 1861 Springfield Rifle
- 1859 Sharps Rifle and Carbine
- 1860 Spencer Rifle and Carbine
- 1860 Henry Rifle
I hope this helps someone out. I'd love to hear from those of you who download these panels and would love to hear how you used the information.
My thanks to Krista Castillo, Norm Hill, Bill Radcliff, Dr. George Smith, Roger Tenney and the men and women of the 13th USCT Living History Association.
