Its a fact that Spencers were in use at Gettysburg, but there is some debate as to what units had them, why they were issued and how many were actually fielded.
There's a fantastic short article on the From the Fields of Gettysburg blog site about the subject that sheds a lot of light about the subject. That's all I'll say about the article except that its good to have friends in the Governor's office!
